EASA Cyprus ft. European Heritage Days: Nicosia - Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections
We had an incredible event on October 26th 2024 at the Amphitheater of the Department of Town Planning and Housing in Nicosia. This year’s theme, “Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections,” aligned perfectly with EASA CY’s focus on Identity. Through exploring the architectural elements of “Path, Network, and Connection,” we delved into the intricate relationships between our built environment and its social, cultural, and historical contexts.
The event featured insightful presentations from:
-
Kostas Moraitis (Professor Emeritus NTUA - School of Architecture) “Η ταυτότητα των τόπων: περιβαλλοντικό, πολιτισμικό και πολιτικό αιτούμενο”
-
Marina Kokkinou (Student of NTUA - School of Architecture) “6: έξι συντελεστές της πόλης”
-
Eleftheria Leonidou (Graduate of NTUA - School of Architecture) “Μνήμη και πολιτικός προσδιορισμός του τοπίου | Αναιρώντας την απώθηση στη Νεκρή Ζώνη της Λευκωσίας”
In the afternoon, we enjoyed a fascinating tour of Old Nicosia led by Anna Maragou (Historian, Archaeologist, Author), which brought the day’s themes to life through the city’s rich heritage.
This event was a steppingstone towards our main event, scheduled for March 1-10, 2025, in Old Nicosia. We look forward to continuing our journey of cultural and educational exchanges between architecture students and young architects in Cyprus and across Europe.
Thank you to everyone who participated and made this day memorable, and especially the European Heritage days Cyprus’ team who sponsored the event and the Cyprus Architects Association that shared the word!
